The Great Coupon Conspiracy

fter living many years of happy Cheapness, we decided to share some of our findings by creating Planet Cheapskate. Our first task was research. What sort of cheap advice are others offering?
We were shocked.
And when we explain the fallacy behind “clipping coupons,” you will be too.

Have you noticed what you can actually buy with those “money-saving” coupons? (Hint: We have yet to pay for my spinach or scallops with one. Or anything natural or fresh for that matter.) They are yet another method that big corporations use to get you hooked on their products — and they are, for the most part, nutritionally worthless — maybe even bad for you! Does your body need cola?
Coupons are marketing tools used to move product.
Or a semi-liquefied cheese food product (that they are not even allowed to label as “cheese”?). Or those super-easy, one dish casseroles — made of refined ingredients, plus lots of fat and sodium — that come in tons of unnecessary packaging. OK, so with that coupon you saved a few cents. Maybe you even scored that product for FREE. How good a deal is it, when you end up compromising your health and the health of your family with this kind of “food”? Our advice: do as much of your grocery shopping on the outside aisles, where the fresh stuff is! Here’s a bonus tip: try to buy your produce in season as much as possible–it’s not only good for your wallet, it’s good for the planet (earth, that is!).
